Motivation

“I feel so unmotivated.  I just feel like I have so much stuff going on and I don’t have time.  There’s A, B and C reasons why I can’t do it”…. Sound familiar? “How do I become motivated?” This seems to be the ultimate question, right?  I will let you in on a little secret now before you invest too much time reading more. YOU have all the energy and motivation within you right this second to accomplish your goals.  You really want to know what’s standing between you and your goals? Your mind. Your mind is the most powerful thing you have to get a grasp of in order to accomplish anything. It’s not work, it’s not having “time”, it’s not school, it’s not the kids, it’s not your family. It’s YOU.

Self-efficacy is someone’s belief in their ability to achieve goals. You are the only one responsible for achieving your goals.  So, let’s start here: do you BELIEVE you can do it? If the answer is yes, then DO IT. If you answered no, then you need to really dig deep in to “why” you want this goal in the first place.  You may have answered no because life is too hectic right now. Let me stop you right there. Everyone’s life is hectic. You want to know what separates you from those you want to be like? It’s not genetics or money. It’s their mindset.  Those people you see on your favorite IG follow, TV, the stage, or wherever, are the ones who don’t give themselves options. Their only option is to achieve what really sets their soul on fire and to accomplish what they set out to do. All commitment and zero excuses.

The only true thing holding you back from accomplishing your goals are your thoughts.  The fear, doubt, worry, and your insecurities are what’s holding you back. And that’s it! People tell me everyday that they “can’t” do something, it’s just too difficult, it’s impossible or they’re beating themselves up over this or that.  They are telling me how they feel about themselves in that moment out loud. I could only imagine what they tell themselves in their head. Listen to what you say to yourself day after day. What thoughts are you focused on? Stop giving attention to the negative thoughts and stop talking yourself out of your goals. To be fair, you may not even know you’re doing it.  It’s those self-limiting thoughts that are holding you back so you then try to find an “easy out” or excuse to keep you from actually doing what needs to be done.

What is your goal?  Write down “why” you have that goal and “why” you want to achieve it and never lose sight of it.  I’m not saying it will be easy. Anything worth having takes sacrifice. You gain from sacrifice. You gain from coming up from the other side of those sacrifices.  That’s where you come out on top. Whether you answered yes or no to the question earlier… You will be constantly faced with distractions, obstacles, sacrifices and insecurities.  It is up to you to own up to all of it. Owning up to YOU and not giving yourself the option to quit, being disciplined in your actions and self-talk, and being stronger than you think you are, THAT is motivation.
